Jewelry Care

How to care for your jewelry.

Most Svea pieces are built for daily wear. A few simple habits keep them looking their best.

Daily Habits

Everyday wear

  • Put jewelry on last — after perfume, sunscreen, and hairspray
  • Remove before heavy exercise with weights or rough surfaces
  • A quick wipe with a soft cloth after wearing removes oils and residue
Water Resistance

Water

Stainless steel (including PVD-plated): Safe for daily showers and hand washing. Avoid hot tubs, pools, and saltwater for prolonged periods. PVD-plated pieces have the highest water resistance.

Titanium steel: Naturally corrosion-resistant, but remove before prolonged water exposure to preserve the plated finish.

Copper, alloy, zinc alloy: Remove before any water contact. These metals are more sensitive to moisture.

Textile (woven cord): Keep dry. Spot clean with a damp cloth if necessary.

Cosmetics

Perfume, lotion & cosmetics

Apply all products before putting on jewelry. Chemical contact — even from hand sanitizer — accelerates wear on plated surfaces.

Storage

How to store your pieces

  • Store pieces individually — a soft pouch, a lined box, or a compartmentalized tray
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and humidity
  • Avoid piling pieces together — metal-on-metal contact causes surface scratches
Cleaning

How to clean each material

Stainless steel: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, use warm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse, and dry immediately.

Titanium steel: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. A slightly damp cloth is fine for stubborn residue — dry immediately after.

Copper & alloy: Dry cloth only. Avoid water-based cleaning.

Textile (woven cord): Wipe gently with a dry cloth. Avoid pulling on metal studs.

Caution

What to avoid

  • Bleach, acetone, and harsh chemical cleaners
  • Ultrasonic jewelry cleaners (they can damage plating)
  • Sleeping in necklaces that could catch or pull
  • Storing jewelry in bathrooms (humidity accelerates tarnishing on non-steel pieces)
Troubleshooting

If something happens

Plating showing wear

This is normal over time with daily use, especially on non-steel bases. It does not indicate a defect.

Stone loosening

Stop wearing the piece and contact us. If it's within 30 days, we'll assess a replacement.

Clasp or link breaking

Email us at contact@maisonsvea.com with a photo. Within 30 days, we replace it.
